Ikebukuro's Animate is growing to become the world's largest anime store by 2023.
Animate's flagship store in Ikebukuro is a popular destination for anime and manga enthusiasts from all over the world, who come to browse the store's extensive collection of comics, games, and souvenirs.
The nine-story shop near the east exit of Ikebukuro Station will commemorate its 40th anniversary with a big refurbishment, with the goal of becoming the world's largest anime store.
The Animate flagship shop will expand into the adjacent site of the former Ikebukuro Health Care Centre, with a grand (re-)opening slated for spring 2023.
The new complex will be a bigger and better venue for visitors to immerse themselves in the unique world of anime and manga. As seen above, the exterior will be intended to complement the adjacent Hareza Ikebukuro entertainment complex.
